Boogie - Self Destruction

Boogie in _Self Destruction_ video.png

Maaaaaaaan!!!! Y'all need to know bout Boogie man.  This guy makes songs with staying power. You csn tell his intent is to LAST! This one is a lil less content heavy but the vibe has purpose. Not to mention his syncopation on the track...100 gun salute!

“Can't remember nothin'
Still don't give no fucks when
Wildin' out in public
This my self destruction” - Boogie

I don't know man...don't underestimate this song. In a lot of ways there are some metaphors that make you look at the fabric of society and see it for what it is. Self destructive. If you think I'm reaching...you don't know Boogie.

Feeling a lil hype today y'all...so if you're like me… Press play

Royce da 5'9" - Cocaine

Without getting into it… I relate to this song.  Almost too much (minus the happy ending so to speak).  Royce is brilliant on this track. Melodic, deep, inspiring without being preachy… and the song breathed Hip Hop.

I heard the album and was blown away. I heard the song and almost cried.  A notable MC came out last year and had the audacity to say that Hip Hop doesn’t have songs that make you feel like this. I don’t know what’s in his Hip Hop, but mine helped to raise me.  I sure Royce’s last album, Book of Ryan, does the same. Press Play

Bas: Lit ft J.Cole

I laugh when people ask me have I ever heard of Bas...  True story, past two summers I would bump Bas in my whip and out of all the artists I do that for, multiple times someone would honk and ask me who is that:-)

"Girl I'm the baker, you surely caking

Stand back, catch my amazing graces" -Bas

An artist on J.Cole's label Dreamville, I hope this brother gets to shine bright.  He's a lyricist and he's from Queens.  Nuff Said.

"You'd be surprised how many truths you can hide in flows

I'm listenin' to this beat with my eyelids closed" -J. Cole

This song feels so good.  Bump it at the end of your day or before.  I'm a firm believer that good music can make you high.  #inhale

BTW - Great use of a Miguel sample...CLASSIC

Fugees: How many mics #TBT

"Me without a mic is like a beat without a snare" -Lauryn Hill

Top ten best albums of all time.  20 years ago and this song...this ALBUM is still a blueprint on approaching Hip Hop or music for that matter.  Passion, creativity, lyricism, group chemistry, content, fire beats and a determination to make each track better than the last while maintaining a linear story.

"I used to be underrated
Now I take iron, makes my s*** constipated
I'm more concentrated." - Wyclef Jean

Some circles look at being a backpacker as a bad thing (I stay away from those)...  This song makes you regret it.  Head nod is automatic.  Screw face necessary.  N' if you do dance...you better be NICE.

"Too many MCs not enough Mics
Exit your show like I exit the turnpike" - Pras

There were TONS of hits on this album but this track was my personal favorite.  So on this Throwback Thursday, happy anniversary to one of the best groups ever.

"You can't get with this
Sweet like licorice,
Dangerous like syphillis, yeah." - Lauryn Hill

Damn that Ms. Hill verse was tough.  LOL.

Fabolous: Real One

“Fab got that voodoo, Fab got that voodoo, yeah, Fab got that voodoo”

Every so often I check Hip Hop blogs just to see if Fab came out with some new heat.  Punchlines, clever wordplay and beat selection keep me arguing in circles how he’s one the most under-rated.  No gimmicks, just a talented MC.

“You might have had some but you need a real one”

Now this beat…!!!!!!  Great use of a sample from one of the best songs in Hip Hop history by a female MC -Ms. Hill!-  that can send chills with a looping croon.  The song takes me to another place.  Truthfully, I need that today.  Maybe you do too.  If you see someone in a car at a red light head nodding a lil too hard…don’t judge.  Just play this song and understand.

“She might have had some but she need a real one

And she a bad one, realest in the building

And I'm a bad boy, I Diddy bop on Biggie block”
