Isaiah Rashad - 4r Da Squaw

I.Rashad.jpg

...this song makes me happy to embrace adulthood. Not to mention, the video captures the vibe PERFECTLY. Living life, learning while living life, and wishing everyone will just...wake up. But you did...wake up I mean…and sometimes that's enough.

Black...lived past the age of 21...pay my bills...help my fam...inspire people when applicable…live, like, laugh, cry, love…repeat.

Happy New Years….press play.

Bas: Lit ft J.Cole

I laugh when people ask me have I ever heard of Bas...  True story, past two summers I would bump Bas in my whip and out of all the artists I do that for, multiple times someone would honk and ask me who is that:-)

"Girl I'm the baker, you surely caking

Stand back, catch my amazing graces" -Bas

An artist on J.Cole's label Dreamville, I hope this brother gets to shine bright.  He's a lyricist and he's from Queens.  Nuff Said.

"You'd be surprised how many truths you can hide in flows

I'm listenin' to this beat with my eyelids closed" -J. Cole

This song feels so good.  Bump it at the end of your day or before.  I'm a firm believer that good music can make you high.  #inhale

BTW - Great use of a Miguel sample...CLASSIC

Leriq: Say you love me ft. Wizkid

I'm a fan of these brothers. A co-worker put me to some Nigerian music and I haven't been the same since.  No lie.  The beats, the flow, the music...it's a game changer ya'll.  So this was the first song she put me on to.  Shout out to Miss Tami -Salute

"Say you love me, Say you love me,

I know you like it how I give it you baby lemme hear you now"

The lyrics on this one are fiyah.  American writers, take note.  Practice the art of syncopation...OR?  learn from Leriq & Wizkid.

"080 tonight tonight tonight tonight, baby baby na you na you na you I wan do, baby I don dey maya for your matter, baby baby I don dey craze"

Expect to hear a lot more from these brothers, they've got mood music down to a science.

Damian Marley: Beautiful ft. Bobby Brown

"Always have my back she stand true to dat
Real type of loving, thank you for that'

This song...good GAWD!  First of all the album was a 5 mic album.  Let's get that out the way.  On top of that, Bobby Brown was on this track and it was sick!

"Beautiful
Here we go again
My love, you know
I will never let you go
My love
Beautiful
Here we go"

This song is played often.  When I don't want anything to bring me down, this is a go to track.  When love feels right, this is a go to track.  When I want a song that's fiyah, I go to this song! Get the picture;-)

"She is the only Queen, the King is designating
And so mi seal the deal I am negotiating
I know it's kinda deep but keep on concentrating
Cause Jazzy lay di beat and I am clearly stating"

Enjoy ya'll

Jhene Aiko: Bed Peace ft. Childish Gambino

Shhh...just let Jhene speak...

"What I am trying to say is
The love is ours to make so we should make it
Everything else can wait
The time is ours to take so we should take it"

Sometimes you just have to let the music tell its own story.

"Wake up, wake up
Gotta get this paper, get this cake up
Gotta do my hair, gotta put on make-up
Gotta act like I care about this fake stuff
Straight up"

Anything you wanna add Mr. Gambino?

"Curled up with my head on your chest
It's the best remedy for the pain and the stress
If the world doesn't change then we'll never get dressed
It'll be like this to the kiss of the death"

This song makes wanna chill ad grind at the same time.  So let's...

Timmy Thomas: Why can't we live together #tbt

This song needs to be re-released.   I don't care if it's from the 70's.  Everyone needs this song to be a house staple!  Don't get me wrong..I rocked hotline bling til nausea like everyone else.  But this song deserves to be given its due.

"No more war, no more war, no more war
Just a little peace
No more war, no more war
All we want is some peace in this world"

I believe in balance.  War, peace, love, hate... I go to this song when I need peace and love.  I think we as a people need a lot more of it.

"No matter, no matter what color
You are still my brother
I said no matter, no matter what color
You are still my brother"

This song is so much more than a sample.  I hope you can agree with me on that.  Play Timmy Thomas once a week and he may change your life.  Stay blessed.

Majid Jordan: My love ft. Drake

Hey.  Do you like Drake “Hold on, we’re going home”?  Yea?  Me too… How about a whole album of that sound?

Enter Majid Jordan.

“I had an idea in my head
I pictured this going differently
I meant every word that I said
You should have spent more time listening”

Strong singer + strong producer + lyrics typically make for good music.  Fingers crossed it leads to more.  The whole album has a real easy yet intense sound.  It’s definitely a mood ALBUM.  No need to skip unless you want to.

“You got your trophies
I know how you like to show 'em off and shine 'em, and line 'em up
I'm not your trophy, baby
I won't let you show me off or shine me up, or line me up, no”

Today I actually just went to Majid Jordan's album with a need to change my mood.  I'm in a bit of a funk, and maybe not so much looking for these particular lyrics, but the sound itself is a stress reliever.  Hope it helps you too.

Oh yea, Drake is in this song too…Enjoy!

BTW - Majid Jordan was on the song "Hold on, we're going home".  They've clearly got their sound down.  Respect!
