Song of the day: Basketball Jones

It's Playoff time! It's been a cray season and the Knicks aren't in contention (hold the shameless New York Knicks jokes, I've heard them all before) but when you're a fan of the game it still has a hold on you.  If all goes according to my maniacal plan, Toronto Raptors will play San Antonio Spurs.  However, we will most likely be talking about Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors.  Ah well...

"I even put that basketball underneath my pillow
Maybe that's why I can't sleep at night
I need help, ladies and gentlemen
I need someone to stand beside me
I need, I need someone to set a pick for me

At the free-throw line of life..."

I'd say more but the playoffs start today.  Check the song out and if you're like me it'll stay in your head all day!

Timothy Bloom: Til the end of time feat V.Bozeman

I struggle making this my song of the day. This song should be considered a song of a LIFETIME.  Some songs should just never be forgotten.  Like, EVER.  This is such a song.

Oooooooh... if I should die tomorrow
Oh please let there let there be life
Laawwd, no need for sorrow,
Let's just make love until the morning light

I have a confession to make.  I have a mutant power.  Two actually.  Parallel parking and knowing what constitutes as good music.  Timothy Bloom makes good fucking music.  Period.  Punto se acabo (sorry, I’m Panamanian).  But this…this song is other worldly.  I DARE you to not feel this song.  Now…some people might get mad that this song is so good that it didn’t blow up.  Don’t.  That’s not the job of music.  It’s job is to make you FEEL.  If you FEEL it you’ll share it.  I pray quite often that one day by sharing this song to people I’ll wake up one day and learn it’s been re-released, on a soundtrack or movie that sells millions.  This song deserves that.  Til then?  We listen…we share.

I want you to remember me...
I want you to remember me...
Lead on my legacy until the end of time........ yeah...

The song makes me LOVE love.  If you don’t understand that then I may not understand you. No judgements though.  The way it’s sung.  That guitar in the production.  This is a song for the ages.

Timothy Bloom is a star.  You’ve heard his song “All Back” through the artist we know as Chris Brown. If you loved that song like I did, please know that the song is not even Bloom at his best.  Check him out.  As for V. Bozeman?  Veronika Bozeman can be found on the Empire Soundtrack song "What is love".  Oh, and you’re welcome:-)

Laaa laaa la la la la la la la
Laaa laaa la la la la la la la
Laaa laaa la la la la
Until the time

Kyle Dion: Don't Go

ATTENTION all R&B lovers!!! This ALBUM is in heavy rotation.  The song "Don't Go" is worth keeping on repeat on those occasions when you're in that mood.  Not to mention this album makes it easy to be a music lover.  Something about listening to a complete album…not having to skip a track in the car or at home... it's just refreshing.  They don’t come along often.   How rare is it?  Track 2,  maybe by track 3 max, you're used to skipping a song or interlude.  We’ve become accustomed to moving from artist to artist as if someone can’t be creative enough to keep one's musical pallet engaged from beginning to end.  Not the case with the album "Painting Sounds". Like clockwork, playing Kyle Dion around people makes friends and family ask the typical question by the time track 2 comes around.  “Who is THIS?!?!?”

The album is fiyah.  The song is nostalgic and original at the same time.   Strong writing rivaling the production usually makes for a great song.  Possibly great album?  In this case yes.  Check him out ya’ll. He’s worth the listen and time that you’ve been waiting for good music.  #priceless

PnB: No time

This is my gym song.  This is my grind song.  This is my song!  As I'm sure some of you can relate to, I got my hands in a lot of different "thangs" ya'll…sadly...not everyone gets it.  A rare one or two like-minded individuals...but I digress, this song keeps me focused.

So if you’re dedicated to something…ANYTHING! Play this…or just keep the song on repeat for a minute.  It’s worth it. Looking forward to hearing more from PnB if he’s got more mood music in his arsenal.

Stevie Wonder: Sir Duke

“They can feel it all over
They can feel it all over people”

Thank god for Stevie Wonder and his majestic songs.  Oh, I’m sorry, was that over the top?  Tough…dare I say, poetic?  Well I dare to say that no words can do Stevie Wonder justice.  His greatness spans genres.  N' this song? Well this song is an indication of that.

“But just because a record has a groove
Don't make it in the groove
But you can tell right away at letter A
When the people start to move”

The way he syncopates is unrivaled.  Shout out to Nerissa for sharing her mood.  It’s on point!  If I had my way every song by Stevie could be on "lovemoodmusic" but if that’s the case I should just change the name of the site.  Still, this was the first but far from the last time Mr. Wonder graces this blog.  Why?  Because… besides Stevie being a mood maker, he’s a mood CHANGER in many ways.  I hope he changed some of your moods today.  He sure did mine.  Represent Nerissa and keep on sharing with the world.

“Music knows it is and always will
Be one of the things that life just won't quit”

Track 5 from the album Songs In The Key Of Life

A Tribe Called Quest: We got the jazz/Buggin out

Raised in a single parent household, I've proudly said for years that A Tribe Called Quest raised me.  No hyperbole.  I was blessed with an older brother that liked the Native Tongue sound more than Gangster Rap and the rest is history or...me.  I listened to that A Low End Theory album like they were the gospel - psychics or prophets who gave me the blueprint on how to navigate Jamaica Queens.  So I listened ...figuratively and literally. Songs like "Excursions" and "Everything is fair" to "The Infamous Date Rape", I went to that album when I didn't think I had someone to talk to or learn from...

"Competition dem try fe come side way

But competition they must come straight way

Competition dem try fe come side way

But competition they must come straight way" -Phife "We got the Jazz"

I learned more from this album than any class in middle school, high school, or college.  So hearing Phife's passing was like hearing a family member die.  I've no intention to belittle his actual family members.  My condolences and I will forever keep you in my prayers.  Please know that your blood gave life all across the world.  In this case, a lil black boy that grew up in Queens.

"Me sweat another? I do my own thing

Strictly hardcore tracks, not a new jack swing" -Phife "We got the jazz"

I used to argue with my brothers all the time with who was better....Tip or Phife.  We flip flopped all the time.  Older I realize...it never mattered. They were perfect together.  N' Phife...well Phife IS Queens...Phife IS Knicks...Phife is...Phife is...sigh.  Phife is raw man...always will be.

"No shame in my game cause I'll always be the same

Styles upon styles upon styles is what I have

You wanna diss the Phifer but you still don't know the half

I sport New Balance sneakers to avoid a narrow path" -Phife "Buggin Out"

I stare at this post..hoping I say the right words...but...there are no words. A great man is resting in power.  N' it's felt all across the world.  We love you Phife.  It's not in the songs post but I'd like to share one of Hip Hop's best bars that was written by Phife from the song entitled "The Infamous Date Rape".

“All of a sudden, her sugarwalls tumble down like Jericho

She's hotter than Meshach, Shadrach and Abendego” -Phife "The infamous date rape"

Rest in Power brother.

KING: The Greatest

This song makes you feel great.  I’m serious.  The words and the production just inspire each other.  The vibe remains soulful but powerful enough to make you want to play the song at the most random of times.  In my case, King “The Greatest”  makes me feel like I am that dude at the beginning of a long day.

"Get in line, for the greatest, great to grace this side of time
I'm taking home the gold"

These ladies got soul…voices that match an energy that helps you let go.  Free-fall.  Be it love, life, your journey, it's your call.  Just know that King helped you take it there.

BTW – this video is amazing!

"Though my heart, it beats like crazy
My heart is spinning and we both know
There's just one way to go
And someone's gotta fall"
